What began as a hobby for Fabio and Candice Uyttewaal quickly grew into something bigger — a way to share handcrafted, authentic bread and pastries with their community.
Dutch Oven Bread Co. started in their home kitchen, experimenting with slow fermentation, natural leavening, and the baking technique of using a Dutch oven pot. Offering door to door deliveries to friends, family and neighbors, the demand for real bread quickly grew and so did their customer base.
In 2023, Fabio and Candice expanded their home bakery into a commercial kitchen located in the Edgewater industrial center. After years of improving their sourdough and pastry techniques, they decided it was time to give their products the recognition they deserved – a retail space of their own. An incredible opportunity to open their shop on Canal St. in downtown NSB presented itself and it was an immediate success! Fabio and Candice feel honored and grateful to serve the community that has helped their business thrive and they look forward to what the future holds for Dutch Oven!
We focus on small batches, long fermentation times, and hands-on techniques that prioritize quality over speed. Each bread is shaped by hand and baked with steam which results in a crust, texture, and depth of flavor that can’t be rushed or replicated by mass production.
We believe bread should be nourishing and simple. No unnecessary shortcuts or additives. Just flour, water, salt, and time. Our pastries are made using high quality butter from New Zealand and the art of laminating (layering dough and butter) in house. It’s a labor of love, but the difference can be seen and tasted in each delicate croissant and pastry.
Dutch Oven Breads is proud to be community-focused. We bake for local families, regulars who know exactly what day their favorite loaf comes out, and new customers discovering artisan bread for the first time. Whether you’re pairing a loaf with dinner or bringing it to a gathering, our goal is the same — to make bread that feels like home.
As we continue to grow, our commitment remains unchanged. We’ll keep baking the way we started: thoughtfully, traditionally, and with a deep respect for the craft.
Thank you for being part of our story.
We only sell what we've tried and love! That's why we chose Pisgah Coffee Roasters for our espresso beans. We currently offer hot drinks only and feature homemade syrups by Kane's Coffee Co.
Long fermented and made by hand, creating a perfect crust and a tender, well-structured crumb. Sourdough is also easier to digest, making it a healthier option.
Using high-quality New Zealand butter, time and patience, our laminated pastries are flaky, buttery and simply indulgent.

Heard that Dutch Oven Bread Co was pretty good so gave it a whirl. This little bakery is located on Canal St, between City Bistro and Sotheby's. It looks farmhouse rustic brick outside, very appealing and quite charming. Hours posted were open 9a-2p. There were a few people outside when I got there, only 1 in line inside in front of me, 4-5 patrons waiting for their order. Inside is tight, a few tables but it appears to be more of a grab and go location. The display case was well stocked with Danishes, other fun looking breads, croissants, and several really yummy looking baked items priced $5-$7ish. Time through the line was super quick ! They also served coffees. Their cinnamon buns were $6.50 each, appeared thick, but a little thin on frosting on top so I asked if I could pay for a side of frosting. The little gal behind the counter informed me they didn't provide that service and curtly went in to ask if that was all lol! Ohhhhkay then! Thankfully, the cinnamon roll was really very good. The texture was light and fluffy, there wasn't too much cinnamon, it was warm and really well made. The frosting layer is really thin and comes up short but overall, a solid 4/5. Saturday morning in nsb brings a ton of locals to the shops. So many are beyond charming and go the extra mile in friendliness, was just a little taken back but the short response, but I believe in second chances and would try the bakery again. The service was REALLY fast, I loved that part. It was a beautiful day, perfect low 70s, and Christmas cheer was all around. Love NSB on a Saturday morning! Like this review and Follow Sassy beach girl on meta pretty please - I'll be reviewing several other nsb locations soon!Posted on GigiTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. The Dutch Oven Bread Company is a wonderful bakery, offering fresh baked sourdough bread and pastries. The staff is incredibly hardworking, and dedicated to their craft and it shows. I’m so proud that this small local business has been able to grow into what it is today, our community is the best!Posted on C BTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I've been a customer of Dutch Oven Bread Co for many months. I love the quality of their bread as it has very clean ingredients and is one of the few breads that doesn't trigger my gluten sensitivity. Up until their recent move I preordered from them multiple times a month as it is easier with my work schedule to pick up my order in the afternoons and as backup I could find their products at other local stores like Winola Farms in PO. Although I am very happy for the new space they found in NSB, it has come at the cost of a lost customer. I no longer have access to preorder, they've reduced the hours of operation, and they've reduced their production capacity. I can only make it there during my lunch break after 1pm and the multiple times I have been they are sold out of bread since they close at 2pm. Maybe I'm the only one experiencing this, but I wanted to voice my frustration and disappointment because I truly love your products but can no longer waste 30min out of my lunch break to come back empty handed. Best of Luck. I hope in the future I have to opportunity to come back.Posted on Don HuntTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I love to dip a cranberry orange scone in a latte. When you do this you will have a bonus in your last sip!
