Bakers preparing bread in a commercial kitchen with Polin oven.

Where it all started...

What began as a hobby for Fabio and Candice Uyttewaal quickly grew into something bigger — a way to share handcrafted, authentic bread and pastries with their community.

Dutch Oven Bread Co. started in their home kitchen, experimenting with slow fermentation, natural leavening, and the baking technique of using a Dutch oven pot. Offering door to door deliveries to friends, family and neighbors, the demand for real bread quickly grew and so did their customer base.

In 2023, Fabio and Candice expanded their home bakery into a commercial kitchen located in the Edgewater industrial center. After years of improving their sourdough and pastry techniques, they decided it was time to give their products the recognition they deserved – a retail space of their own. An incredible opportunity to open their shop on Canal St. in downtown NSB presented itself and it was an immediate success! Fabio and Candice feel honored and grateful to serve the community that has helped their business thrive and they look forward to what the future holds for Dutch Oven!

Naturally Leavened Bread & Hand Laminated Pastries

We focus on small batches, long fermentation times, and hands-on techniques that prioritize quality over speed. Each bread is shaped by hand and baked with steam which results in a crust, texture, and depth of flavor that can’t be rushed or replicated by mass production.

We believe bread should be nourishing and simple. No unnecessary shortcuts or additives. Just flour, water, salt, and time. Our pastries are made using high quality butter from New Zealand and the art of laminating (layering dough and butter) in house. It’s a labor of love, but the difference can be seen and tasted in each delicate croissant and pastry.

Dutch Oven Breads is proud to be community-focused. We bake for local families, regulars who know exactly what day their favorite loaf comes out, and new customers discovering artisan bread for the first time. Whether you’re pairing a loaf with dinner or bringing it to a gathering, our goal is the same — to make bread that feels like home.

As we continue to grow, our commitment remains unchanged. We’ll keep baking the way we started: thoughtfully, traditionally, and with a deep respect for the craft.

Thank you for being part of our story.

Freshly Brewed Coffee

We only sell what we've tried and love! That's why we chose Pisgah Coffee Roasters for our espresso beans. We currently offer hot drinks only and feature homemade syrups by Kane's Coffee Co.

Artisan Sourdough Bread & Bagels

Long fermented and made by hand, creating a perfect crust and a tender, well-structured crumb. Sourdough is also easier to digest, making it a healthier option.

Laminated Pastries

Using high-quality New Zealand butter, time and patience, our laminated pastries are flaky, buttery and simply indulgent.

I’m so incredibly happy and grateful to have this bakery in our town! ❤️ Everything I’ve tried here has been absolutely delicious and made with such high-quality ingredients. You can truly taste the care and love that goes into everything they make. Some of my recent favorites are the Cherry Danish and the Bread Pudding — both are absolutely amazing! And every single week, I buy the Sourdough Boule. It makes the most delicious avocado toast, and it has honestly become part of my morning routine. I genuinely can’t recommend this bakery enough. If you haven’t tried it yet, you’re definitely missing out! Everything I’ve had has been wonderful, and I’m so happy to have such a special bakery right here in our town.

Awesome new place in my town. Only thing is please slice the Boole bread all the way through. Last couple times it’s not sliced in top or bottom. Thank you

Just went to Dutch Oven Bread Co in NSB. Worth the drive. The ham and cheese croissant was amazing. Flaky buttery goodness. I couldn’t wait to try the baguette. Ripped off the end and ate it while waiting for my friend to cash out. Will definitely return!

I love the bread etc, however my suggestion is to get a bagel cutter for those peeps like me that buy & freeze them. I only eat half bagel at one time. Bagel cutter gets them more even as they are thick & delicious!

Love our little gem bakery. The cinnamon rolls, almond croissants and cruffins are delicious ! Their Asiago cheese bagels are usually very good but today cheese was not noticeable at all. No matter I love this place.

The pastries are always so delicious, my review is more for the two ladies working. I stopped by yesterday in the morning around 11:20am, we got a few items and headed to the beach, we did not realize we were missing two items and I called and they gave no issues and said they would pack those missing items up and I can stop by anytime. when I picked them up they were so apologetic and sweet and stated they added a few extra things. I was close to tears and I know I probably looked creepy staring with tears but we had just had my 13 year old dogs last beach day before we sent him over the rainbow bridge. That small moment of kindness meant so much to my family during a difficult time. Thank you all so much.
